When it comes to Greece, we tend to gravitate toward Athens or Santorini. This new travel itinerary, however, will take you off the beaten path.

Luxury travel operator Geographic Expeditions recently expanded its European portfolio with a new trip to less-visited locales around the Balkan Peninsula. Launching in May 2025, the Unexplored Greece adventure will be led by travel writer Don George. The 12-day journey offers ancient history, natural beauty, and culinary experiences, including stops in Athens, the Island of the Winds, Delos, and Crete.

Your journey starts in Athens with exploration of archeological sites like the Acropolis, the Parthenon, and the ancient city of Agora, where you’ll find the Temple of the Olympian Zeus. You’ll also enjoy a private rooftop welcome dinner overlooking the city.

Next, you’ll visit the villages of the Peloponnese mountains to hunt for truffles and harvest honey. You’ll stay at the newly-opened Manna Hotel in Arkadia. The trip continues with a flight to Mykonos and a boat ride to Delos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Apollo.

On day nine, you’ll go to Crete, where the Minoans, Europe’s first great civilization, arose. You’ll visit Knossos and its museums, check out local villages, chat with artisans, and enjoy the local cuisine. A full-day private yacht excursion with an alfresco barbecue lunch is included. The last day will be spent exploring Chania with a vineyard visit, wine tasting, and a tour of a 6th-century olive oil estate.
