The legendary presidential yacht Honey Fitz is now available for charter with the Pelican Club in Jupiter, Florida. Managed by Lessing’s Hospitality Group, the venue offers several packages for guests to enjoy the 93-footer dockside or within the Jupiter Inlet.
Originally built by Defoe Boat & Motor Works in 1931, Honey Fitz was first delivered to Montgomery Ward tycoon Sewell Avery. Later, it became a presidential yacht used by Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, and John F. Kennedy.
The yacht’s name changed multiple times before JFK named it Honey Fitz, inspired by his maternal grandfather John Francis Fitzgerald. Kennedy and his family frequently cruised on Honey Fitz, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis redesigned the interiors in the early 1960s.
In 1971, the U.S. government sold Honey Fitz to a private owner. After years of neglect, entrepreneur Charles R. Modica discovered it in 2020 and oversaw a three-year restoration. The yacht still features historical parts from the 1930s, World War II, and presidential eras from 1945 to 1971.
Honey Fitz offers luxury befitting a world leader, with space for up to 35 guests. It includes a spacious main salon, a fully equipped galley, a plush stateroom, and a sundeck. The yacht is equipped with modern navigation and safety systems.
