McLaren’s first EVs are here, but they have two wheels instead of four.
The British supercar specialists have unveiled a new range of electric mountain bikes: the Extreme and Sport. These bikes are claimed to be the most powerful street-legal e-bikes available.
Unlike other automakers, McLaren designed these bikes entirely in-house, using the same team behind the hybrid Artura. Both bikes feature carbon-fiber construction and orange accents, reflecting McLaren’s supercar aesthetics. Despite their powerful look, they are less bulky than typical rugged mountain bikes.
The standout feature is the custom-tuned mid-drive motor in both the Extreme and Sport. This motor delivers 600W of normalized power, 852W of peak power, and 119 ft lbs of torque, making it the most powerful on the market. Both models can reach all-electric speeds of up to 20 mph. For those who find this too much, a 250W motor option is also available.
The Extreme and Sport share similarities but have key differences. The Extreme has full suspension for better off-road performance, while the Sport is more versatile and streamlined. Both models come with a handlebar-mounted display with supercar-like graphics, five ride modes, and Pirelli all-terrain tires.
The bikes are available now through McLaren’s dedicated website. The Sport ranges from $7,950 to $8,950, while the Extreme ranges from $10,950 to $11,950, with each model available in limited numbers.
