The 1952 Observatory Dial Limited Edition timepiece is the result of a collaboration between esteemed watch industry figures: Aurel Bacs, Alexandre Ghotbi, William Massena, and watchmaker Raúl Pagès. Inspired by the Magraph watch and the vintage Audemars Piguet VZS calibers, the team sought to create a unique timepiece that pays homage to classic watchmaking while incorporating modern elements.
The watch features the manual-wind, proprietary caliber M690 from the Magraph Limited Edition, making its debut in a publicly released wristwatch. This movement, reminiscent of precision timing mechanisms like those found in racing cars, adds to the allure of the timepiece.
Drawing inspiration from the Patek Philippe Ref. 2458 made for J.B. Champion, Jr., the dial configuration includes a sub-seconds register at nine o’clock and a second “register” at three o’clock. These subdials feature the collaborators’ brand names, adding a personal touch to the design. The dial’s two tones of gray contrast beautifully with the yellow gold accents on the indices and hands, creating a visually striking aesthetic.
Limited to just 99 pieces, the 1952 Observatory Dial Limited Edition is housed in a 38.5mm stainless steel case and is available exclusively through Phillips for 8,000 CHF (approximately $8,762 USD).
