Pack your bags: you have to visit Santiburi Beach Resort & Spa

Be our guest

The US$20 million newly renovated 5-star Santiburi Beach Resort & Spa on the northern coast of Koh Samui is like an island within an island. Spread over 23 acres of lush tropical gardens, rare plants, towering palms and fragrant frangipani trees, lotus ponds, fountains, bridges over streams, and an idyllic beach: this has the complete feeling of escape to a secluded, luxurious, all-inclusive paradise.

Inclusive indeed. The family friendly resort has a plethora of diversions for both young and old. Each day, you’ll receive a list of activities, which can include candle, paper mask and bread making, cooking classes, jungle walks, beach fishing, bicycle rides to a temple and morning walks to a market.

Then, there is also a spectacular hilltop that provides a vantage point for sunsets, an 18-hole champion golf course, a 1.2km jogging track, state-of-the-art fitness club, mini petting zoo, playroom for kids, and of course, a variety of sporting activities. Apart from the usual yoga, tennis and Thai boxing sessions, Santiburi Beach Resort & Spa also offers water sports activities like kayaking, sailing, catamaran and windsurfing. You wouldn’t find jetskis here though, for the resort banks on keeping its beaches motor-free.

Of course, if the above sounds like too much work for a holiday, tone it down a notch and take it slow. Swing in a cushioned hammock on the soft-sandy 300-meter long Mae Nam beach, go for a swim in the turquoise waters, or take a dip in the 50-m long, oval-shaped swimming pool, the largest on the island. Need some sunblock, an extra towel, or a lounge chair? The Beach Butlers on patrol will see to your needs, all while making cart rounds with cold water, fruit and ice creams throughout the day.

A holiday wouldn’t be complete without a head-to-toe, muscle-melting massage. Santiburi Spa, beautifully designed in the 14th-century Sukhothai style, provides several unique signature massages and treatments that use natural products sourced exclusively from Thailand. While facilities include a Turkish massage table, shower therapy room, indoor baths and even outdoor bathtubs enclosed in gardens, all these will be forgotten when you therapist delivers the chakra balancing healing massage that will take you to Nirvana and back.

Suites and villas are scattered across the resort, but we recommend the villas, as they provide a more immersive resort experience. Eight villa options are available and the cream of the crop has to be the Two-Bedroom Grand Deluxe Beachfront Villa with a private pool. The villa comprises three separate buildings, and is decked in contemporary-styled furniture with rich, earthy colors, silk pillows, king-sized beds, walk-in closets, stone bathtubs and rain showers.

Dining options are aplenty too. There are five dining destinations, including beachfront Rim Talay that serves international cuisines and an extensive selection of fresh fish and imported meats. Not sure which to select? The resort offers an ever-changing list of themed events, including cooking classes, Mediterranean meals, and barbecue buffet nights.
