Perpétuel Gallery, nestled in Dubai’s International Financial Centre near the Ritz-Carlton, is a discreet boutique showcasing some of the world’s most significant independent watchmaking. During Dubai Watch Week, the gallery hosted an exhibition attended by notable watchmakers like Roger W. Smith and Simon Brette, alongside founder Hamdan Bin Humaid Al Hudaidi. Al Hudaidi, a distinguished collector, established Perpétuel in 2021, defying skepticism to become a leading global hub connecting collectors with independent watchmakers.
Through unique relationships, Al Hudaidi creates exclusive limited editions available only at Perpétuel, despite long waiting lists for these watchmakers. The recent collaboration with Krayon resulted in 15 limited-edition Anywhere watches, showcasing desert-orange accents, quickly selling out globally. Dubai Watch Week, organized by the Seddiqi family, is credited for fueling local interest in watch collecting since its inception in 2015. The event has grown significantly, attracting brands like Rolex and Audemars Piguet and fostering a casual and intimate atmosphere where collectors interact with master watchmakers.
Vintage timepieces are also gaining traction in the Middle East, reflecting a shifting perspective on pre-owned goods. Momentum, located near Perpétuel, was an early advocate for vintage watches in the region. Tariq Malik, its cofounder, notes the initial novelty of vintage watches in Dubai but now caters to clients locally and internationally, specializing in rare Rolexes. Perpétuel’s Al Hudaidi also deals in vintage watches, particularly rare Pateks, including a unique Patek Philippe Ref. 1491J chronograph with historical significance, available for purchase.
