No need to turn back time: An open-top Ferrari that once belonged to Cher is now up for grabs.
The Goddess of Pop’s old 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS is currently up for auction on Bring a Trailer. This car remains in excellent condition more than 50 years after Cher parted ways with it.
The Dino 206 GT was Ferrari’s answer to the Porsche 911 and its first model manufactured in high numbers. Named for founder Enzo Ferrari’s late son, it was the marque’s first to feature a V-6. The mid-mounted 2.0-liter engine produced 176 hp. Calls for more power led to the Dino 246 GT in 1969, with a larger V-6 that churned out 189 hp, reaching a top speed of 146 mph.
Cher opted for the open-top spider (GTS) when she bought hers from Hollywood Sports Cars in December 1972. She outfitted it with vanity plates that read “CHERS." Despite her fondness, she sold the car to race driver Chris Cord in March 1974, shortly before her marriage to Sonny Bono ended.
Cher’s Dino, though passed through a few collectors, remains in excellent condition. It has been repainted Rosso Chiaro red with a Nero black leather interior. Its V-6 is mated to a five-speed manual transmission, and the odometer shows 65,000 miles, with only 500 added by the current owner.
The auction runs through Monday, June 10. As of now, bidding has reached $500,000 and is expected to climb.
