This once-in-a-lifetime package starts with a private helicopter transfer from Amanera to the La Aurora factory in Santiago de los Caballeros. This is the original premium-cigar factory in the Dominican Republic, established in 1903 by then 18-year-old Eduardo León Jimenes, who would go on to be one of the country’s most successful businessmen. There, you’ll learn firsthand from master blender Manuel Inoa, a cigar artisan and rum expert with over 40 years’ experience in the art of tobacco and rum craftsmanship. Inoa himself will lead your private tour around the factory before hosting a detailed cigar-making master class.
This workshop will offer unique insight into the meticulous process of rolling premium cigars and the artistry behind rum making—and you’ll go home with reminders of both: a personalized box of 12 cigars, featuring a bespoke blend crafted exclusively for the experience, along with a bottle of limited-production E. León Jimenes rum, named after the facility’s founder and released specifically to honor the cigar maker’s 110th anniversary. The rum is aged for a decade, largely in virgin American white oak barrels, and then finished for the final two years in virgin French oak tuns.
The day will be capped by lunch at Las Canas, followed by cigar and rum tasting at the Cigar Institute, before you take the helicopter back to Amanera for the rest of your stay.
Home for this three-night getaway will be the 829-square-foot Amanera Casita with its own terrace, private swimming pool, and views of the ocean. You’ll also have access to the neighboring fairways of Playa Grande Golf & Ocean Club, originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and fully renovated by his son Rees Jones.
