Part 2 of our tastemaker series: an interview with polpat Asavaprapha
Bangkok
Polpat Asavaprapha, founder of Thai fashion brand Asava.
How do you approach each new creative project?
Creativity is a thinking process to me. Like muscles, creativity, requires exercise too. Start with something you feel emotionally attached to and train your brain to interpret it in your own way.
What catches your attention in terms of fashion, design and interiors?
Urban. Sophisticated. Realistic. Authentic. Intelligence.
How did you hone your sense of style?
Style is an evolution. I don’t think people change, they can only evolve as does their style.
Your personal interpretation of luxury?
To me, freedom is the most luxurious thing in life that one can possess.
Your most challenging project?
To expand my business without losing my soul.
Your five inspirations:
Muji for its genuine and straightforward retail ideas.
Comme des Garcons by Rei Kawakubo for thinking outside of the box.
Dries Van Noten for his rich and eclectic ability to mix and match.
New York City for being a melting pot of cultures that continues to meld and inspire people across the globe.
Matthew Barney for his fantastically brilliant art.
What’s next for luxury?
The rise of Asian luxury brands.
In this series, we also feature Bonnae Gokson, Loh Lik Peng , Farah Khan , and Jeffrey A. Wilkes.
