Christie’s is gearing up for its first watch auction of the year in Hong Kong from March 27 to April 9, marking the beginning of the 2024 spring season. This auction, along with 14 others planned globally, is expected to draw enthusiasts and collectors from around the world. Last year’s record-breaking sales, particularly in November, have made the Hong Kong chapter a focal point in the watch world. Achieving a total of HK$222 million in November, Hong Kong set a new record sale total of HK$696 million, representing a 15% increase year-on-year. Notably, Christie’s Hong Kong also achieved the highest price for any watch auctioned online, with Patek Philippe’s “Sky Moon Tourbillon” Ref. 6002G-001 fetching HK$45.4 million. Emmanuel Danan, global managing director of luxury at Christie’s, highlights the significance of seamless access to auctions for a global clientele, with 38% of Christie’s global watch clients being millennials. Highlights of the upcoming auction include a diamond-studded Cartier and Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak Offshore Music Edition.
