Chrysler Airflow (1934-1937)

Like many of the greatest cars, the Airflow was a failure. It was too bold, and too dramatic in its pursuit of streamlining, all the rage in the ‘30s. Everything from locomotives to radios was getting the streamlined treatment, but luxury car buyers, conservative as they tend to be, eschewed Chrysler’s big gamble. Chrysler had a reputation for making high-quality cars that were somewhat stodgy. After the Airflow, that’s right what it got back to building. — RO
