True modern comfort with homely vibes
With the current Covid pandemic, travel has been severely limited. Travelling out of Thailand is difficult and returning home requires a 2 week quarantine.
Why not brighten your life, get a change of scenery travelling domestically? Thailand has some of the world’s most beautiful, serene and peaceful beaches.
And now, with less people, tranquility is almost immediate. Koh Samui has always been a favourite for me. A cute airport as well as full facilities on the island. Pleasant energy wraps around your body in the island. Such bliss.
Khwan Beach Resort’s owner, Patrick was kind enough to invite us to experience his version of glamping as well as pool villas.
Personally, I used to be a boy scout leader and know how to setup my own tents and live in the jungle, so this was something exciting for me to experience. In this current age, we are all going for new experiences. The resort is along Mae Nam and not far at all from the airport.
Patrick personally picked us up and drove us to his resort. Arriving at his resort, you can see these cool tents which have been custom fabricated overseas and imported into Thailand.
Detailed to perfection, each tent has uber modern facilities like a flat screen high-definition TV, high speed stable internet access, an air con and a pleasant outdoor shower with a bathtub.
Open air showers are always a nice touch to shower under the stars, moon bathe or receive a vitamin d boost from the sun during the day.
The resort has a chill swimming pool with a pool bar and a waterfall. Before Covid, this resort was packed daily. People would come from all over the world to hang out here and post on Instagram. The pool is one of their central themes as it is a place to socialize, sunbathe and enjoy food and drinks.
The beach is literally a few minutes away by walking. I think when I timed it, it was 3 minutes by foot.
Passa restaurant inside the resort used to serve top quality food and is still there. Right now they have available a pool table and a newly formed cigar club.
Breakfast was utterly delicious with lovely chocolate eclairs and croissants which were perfect and melted in your mouth. I was careful not to eat too many as I didn’t want to bring home extra luggage in my stomach, but oh so lovely! Patrick and his team are very hospitable and friendly.
He pays attention to details such as dietary requirements and anything that you might require. This is always pleasant and welcoming. After a few lovely, enjoyable days there (Patrick even took us to some great restaurants around the island), we headed to Koh Phanghan.
Upon our return, Patrick let us stay in a pool villa for a different experience. The pool villa has your own little garden, swimming pool as well as a gate you can close for privacy
Inside the pool villa, there are all sorts of art that is placed there. From interesting paintings as well as art pieces. And you can buy them if you want! We took home a small elephant which was too cute to leave behind (we named him Louie).
The villa had a ground floor and an upper floor with a balcony. It’s like your own private compound. Again, with stable high-speed internet, high-definition TV, open air shower, air con and a comfortable bed upstairs that overlooks the sea.
All in all, we had a wonderful time there and has earned our seal of approval. I highly recommend that you experience what Khwan has to offer, you won’t be disappointed.
At the time of this writing, you cannot fly due to all the flights being suspended. But you can still get there by car.
As long, as you have had a vaccine and as of now, a PCR test is required, you can enter Koh Samui (if you are already in Thailand).
Is it worth a long journey there? From Bangkok it is a long drive. Yes, it is worth it if you want to get away from the city and experience bliss and tranquility.
If not, once the airlines are back in operation, go and enjoy.
