Mastercard continues forest restoration support in Kaeng Krachan National Park

Bangkok, Thailand – 23 June 2025 – Mastercard reaffirms its commitment and continued support for the Priceless Planet Coalition’s restoration efforts in Kaeng Krachan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Thailand, and across 21 other sites around the world. The project is part of the coalition’s global ambition to fund the restoration of 100 million trees globally.

In Thailand, Mastercard is working with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, and local communities to restore 165 hectares of degraded land in the Kaeng Krachan National Park and safeguard conservation areas by planting at least 275,000 trees by 2026.

Drawing on IUCN Thailand Programme’s experience in forest and landscape restoration (FLR), the project uses science-based techniques such as agroforestry, riparian zone rehabilitation, and enrichment planting to improve ecological connectivity and reduce forest fragmentation. It also promotes long-term conservation by empowering local communities through sustainable land use and financial incentives. Kaeng Krachan is home to rich ecosystems and endangered species such as Asian elephants, leopards, and great hornbills, making the restoration efforts vital for both biodiversity and community resilience.

As of 2024, the Priceless Planet Coalition—in collaboration with Conservation International and World Resources Institute—has grown to over 150 partners who have helped support the planting of millions of trees and more than 800 plant species, while creating 2.6 million workdays for local communities around the world.
