A rare insight into the tradition of high-precision watchmaking
Patek Philippe, the last privately owned Geneva watch company, is launching The Art of Watches Grand Exhibition New York 2017 from 13 to 23 July at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York. For ten days, the public exhibition will showcase the brand’s tradition of high-precision watch manufacturing over its 178-year history and Haute Horologerie heritage.
The brand hopes that this exhibition will serve to share their passion for watchmaking and increase knowledge and appreciation for the art of watches.
For the first time ever, a two-story structure has been erected within Cipriani for accommodate an exhibition of this scale. The exhibition is separated into ten rooms to showcase different environments, including the Theater Room, Current Collection Room, Museum Room, US Historic Room, Rare Handcrafts Gallery, and Grand Complications Room. Visitors will have access to timepieces dating back to 1530 and witness rare watchmaker and artisan demonstrations such as Patek Philippe Calibre 89, a commemorative pocket watch created in 1989. After their tour, visitors are welcome to relax at the Patek Philippe Café.
The exhibition is of significance as Patek Philippe has historically been tied to America, ever since the 1850’s when the brand’s founder traveled to the land. From then on, each head of the company trained in America to develop the brand. Patek Philippe believes that this exhibition will help people learn more about the ties between the brand and the American market.
The Art of Watches, Grand Exhibition is open to the general public and free of charge from 10:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday through Sunday, with special extended evening hours on Thursday, 20 July from 10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Guided tours are available.
