Smooth sailing

Singapore Yacht Show 2016 ended last Sunday, bringing to a close the four-day luxury lifestyle event at ONE°15 Marina Club in Sentosa Cove. This year’s edition saw the attendance of thousands of marine leisure enthusiasts, VIPs and buyers. Azimut Singapore, Northrop & Johnson, Simpson Marine and other brokers joined international yacht builders such as Amels, Benetti, Lürssen and Sunreef Yachts to showcase the latest watercraft in the industry.

New on the shipyard
Among the many highlights of Singapore Yacht Show 2016 was Sunreef Yacht’s world premier of the Sunreef Supreme — a brand new line of luxury catamarans. In particular, Sunreef Supreme 68 Eagle Wings, the first in its range, is a 68-ft sailing catamaran that boasts floor-to-ceiling windows and nearly 300sqm of living space. Manufacturers Azimut and Lagoon also made their Asia debuts: Azimut showcased its Azimut 66 Fly, along with its new flybridge, while Lagoon presented a reinvention of the classic catamaran. Designed together with VPLP architects and Nauta Design studio, the Lagoon 450 SporTop sports a mid-height helm station, an alternative to the flybridge.

Yacht brokerage firm Fraser Yachts also made a splash at the show with not one, but three superyachts under its hull, including the refitted 34-m Azul A and the five-cabin, 50-m Sensation. Even more awe-inspiring was Dutch yacht company Amel’s 55-m La Familia. The Limited Editions privately-owned superyacht is the work of the award-winning Tim Heywood and features interior designs by London-based Lambert & Thurnherr Interiors.

Old but gold: restorations
In celebration of Princess Yachts’ 50th anniversary, the British company not only unveiled its elegant Princess 75, but also showcased the restoration of its first charter yacht, Project 31.  The yacht, christianed Charlotte — and otherwise known as Project 31@50 — has been fully refitted with its parts reconditioned. Spanish illustrator Jaume Vilardell was also taked woth creating two images evoking the 1960s style glamour of travel and escapism.

Bigger is better
The bragging rights for biggest watercraft on show however, belonged to Benetti’s 56-m Lady Candy. Apart from its towering size and stature, the yacht’s layout includes a cinema, an enclosed beach club with a bar, and a spa pool with waterfall effects to name a few. On the upper aft deck sits the owner’s suite, providing a 180-degree panoramic view of the ocean.

Rounding it up
Besides the first ever on-water demonstration platform where visitors could experience Seabobs and Flyboards at the Singapore Yacht Show 2016, a host of activities were on-going on land as well. A spectacular series of supercars from Lamborghini and Ferrari thrilled, whilst complimentary sunrise yoga classes on the docks by GuavaPass relaxed and energised show-goers. A private master class led by MasterChef Asia judge Audra Morrice on board Simpson Marine’s MCY 86 on Friday was followed by a cooking demonstration dockside on Sunday.

Rounding up Singapore Yacht Show 2016 was the ‘Black and Red’ gala dinner held at W Singapore. Brokers, owners, and builders were treated to a gourmet dinner and were entertained by a line-up of cabaret entertainment, including a performance by Singapore’s first burlesque artist, Sukki Singapora.
