Enjoy this Thai Royal Cuisine special dish created by our culinary talents.

Hua Hin, Thailand, 10 March 2025: Devasom Hua Hin invites guests to savour the traditional Thai dish Khao Chae at Deva Bistro. Typically served only during summer, this royal cuisine can now be enjoyed throughout the year, thanks to the resort’s talented culinary team.

About Khao Chae:

Khao Chae, meaning ‘rice soaked in water’, is a dish that dates back to the court of King Rama II. Known for its complexity, it consists of four key elements: par-boiled rice, jasmine-scented water, ice, and an array of side dishes.

At Devasom Hua Hin, chefs elevate this dish using flower-scented water made from homegrown Bread Flowers (Dok Chommanat), infused repeatedly with aromatic candle smoke. The rice is meticulously half-cooked, scrubbed to remove glutinous flour, and steamed again, resulting in a refreshingly unique texture.

The dish is accompanied by a selection of flavourful side dishes, including:

  • Bell peppers stuffed with minced pork and wrapped in egg.
  • Deep-fried shrimp paste balls.
  • Radishes stir-fried in coconut milk.
  • Shredded dried pork floss.
  • Sweet Yee-Son fish.
  • Intricately carved fruits and vegetables renowned in Thai cuisine.

How to Enjoy:

To fully appreciate the flavours, begin by pouring the fragrant water and ice over the rice. Dip each spoonful into the water to absorb the floral aroma. Taste the side dishes one by one, keeping them separate from the rice to savour their distinct flavours.
